Frequently asked questions
-
Of course!
We would ask you to consider making a donation to our organization. -
Yes!
We have all the gear you need other than a fishing license. If you’d like to arrange a casting lesson or would like to meet on the local river to try your hand at the lovely craft, we are here for you. -
We do!
Following our first fundraiser, we are hoping to have the necessary gear. Ask for a meeting and we can make arrangements. We typically camp along the rivers we are drifting or stay at a local campground.
-
If you are a minor, we require having an adult travel with you. But in some cases, we can accommodate minors with written consent from a parent or guardian.
Please contact us for more information. -
Most boats fit two or three drifters. We can accommodate as many people as our boats will allow.

Yes.
A great way to build teamwork is to do something active and fun instead of sitting in a ‘bored room’ (board room).
If interested in a team building activity, let us know. Your donation to our non-profit is negotiable - we have no set fees. Additionally, your donation to our organization is a business write off. -
Yes, we are insured, but we do ask you to sign a standard waiver, which most companies and non-profits require! We take the utmost precautions with safety vests for participants who are rafting, and we are all water safety certified.
-
As a new organization, we are building relationships at the moment with groups who share similar philosophies.
We are non-political other than to say we believe in policies that protect our resources and keep them open to the public for enjoyment. -
Through a variety of ways.
We conduct fundraisers, take donations from businesses who share our beliefs, write grants, and happily accept gifts from individuals.
We believe people want to support organizations with a mission to get people outside and away from the phones, computers and social media platforms that often complicate our lives and distort reality.
We believe the more people who come to appreciate the natural world and its bountiful gifts the better off we all are.
The creation of Flannel River is our way of sharing some of the joy we have experienced over our years of fly fishing and drifting along rivers. -
We are in the early stages of acquiring gear, and that may take some time depending on how fundraising progresses.
Please contact us with direct any questions. -
Great question.
At our core, we’re just ‘flannel guys’ and like the name.
What matters, though, is our commitment to helping people experience the outdoors through rafting and fishing. For us, it’s about giving back and creating a legacy of future environmental stewards. -
Flannel River is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit. This means that any monetary donation you make to Flannel River can be deducted from your federal income tax.
You can make a donation here.
For your records, our EIN is 88-2215547. If you would like to see a copy of our IRS exemption letter, we would be happy to provide a copy on request.
The money is used primarily for gear and supplies, but we have additional costs associated with running a non-profit, including maintenance of gear, web site support, insurance, storage of gear, and other costs connected to starting up.
Currently all money being raised goes to the purchase of gear and to cover these costs. -
Flannel River is located in River Falls, WI, 35 miles east of the Twin Cities, Minnesota.
Western Wisconsin is home to many blue ribbon trout streams, including the Kinickkinick and Rush rivers. In addition to our trout waters, we also have easy access to the St. Croix, Flambeau, Chippewa, and Red Cedar rivers, all perfect for drifting or rafting, depending on conditions.
If interested in arranging a trip, please contact us. We are not limited to the River Falls area; in fact, we know the rivers of greater Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa quite well and are willing to travel or make arrangements.
The folks at Flannel River also have extensive experience fly fishing and camping out west, particularly in Wyoming and Montana. These trips require a fair amount of planning, but we are willing to help plan and organize an event. We can make these dream trips happen, so don’t hesitate to inquire.
