We are Flannel River

As a new non-profit organization, you may be wondering who we are, what we do and how it all works.

What do we do?

We are a non-profit organization that is committed to helping underserved* populations connect to the natural world through river and fishing experiences.

*In this context, ‘underserved’ refers to those with different disabilities, experiencing economic and/or emotional challenges, with little outdoor knowledge or experience, or those who feel marginalized or disenfranchised.

What are we hoping to achieve?

Based on the principles of stewardship and the idea of ‘leave no trace,’ we want to create a space where people can disengage from the stresses of every day life, including overuse of screens and constant news cycles, and come together under an enjoyment for our local scenery and wildlife.

Who can take part?

We welcome anyone who wishes to have a river experience, whether that be through rafting and/or fly fishing. All are welcome, and we will do all we can to make sure you have a safe and enjoyable experience, regardless of your abilities.

How are you funding this?

We are supported through donations, partnerships with businesses who support our mission, and grants that help pay our operating costs.

Our first partnership is with
Bill Sherer’s We Tie It of Wisconsin, who is building Flannel River its first rafting boat, which is wheelchair accessible.

I’d like to volunteer or get involved in some way.

Great! We would love to hear how you would like to get involved, whether it be through our existing volunteering opportunities or an idea that you may have.
